Catastrophic Flash Flood Devastates Communities in Nepal
Nepal was struck by a catastrophic flash flood on August 26, 2026, following an ice-and-rock avalanche and glacier-related slope failure in the Himalayan border region.
The resulting surge of water, mud, rock and debris travelled downstream through the affected river systems, causing widespread destruction across communities.
Homes, roads, bridges, hydropower facilities and other critical infrastructure have been severely damaged or destroyed. Entire communities have been displaced, while families continue to search for loved ones who remain missing.
Search-and-rescue teams and government agencies continue working to reach affected communities, recover victims, evacuate survivors and provide emergency assistance.
The scale of the destruction has created enormous challenges for families who have lost homes, livelihoods, transportation routes and access to essential services.
